Frequently asked Questions

What is Mooncoin?

Mooncoin is a Proof of Work (PoW) coin, much like Bitcoin and Litecoin, but with a faster reoccurring block speed. It was created in late 2013, making it one of the elder statesmen in the world of cryptocurrency. Unlike typical new coin releases, Mooncoin never held an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) and never did any pre-mining, ensuring everyone had equal access to MOON, from its very inception. Compare this to the now all too common world of a pre-mined new coin, followed by pre-ICO exclusive member pools and heavily discounted ICO offerings. Moon hearkens back to the Fair Coin template, before the venture capitalist system began to manipulate the original intent of digital currencies.

Where can I get Mooncoin?

Mooncoin is currently available on the following exchanges:

Do note that many exchanges offer different trading pair options (such as BTC, LTC, DOGE, etc) for trading.  Taking a few extra minutes to compare the different trading pairs may end up saving you money.

Mooncoin is also available for trading on a P2P (peer to peer) basis.  Any two parties holding Moon in a private wallet can transfer it directly to one another, without any added steps involved.  It is extremely inexpensive, credit card speed fast, and very secure.  See Instructions and Walkthroughs page for more detailed information.

Can I mine Mooncoin?

Yes, Moon is a Proof of Work coin, and as such is mine-able.  An ASIC mining hardware device (a mining “rig”) is strongly advised, as a typical computer GPU is incapable of this specialized processing function.  Also, it is recommended to join a mining pool, as opposed to mining individually, as your rate of return tends to be better.  See Instructions and Walkthroughs page for more detailed information.

Where can I store Mooncoin?

The absolute safest way to store Moon (or any cryptocurrency) is by using a paper wallet. A paper wallet simply cannot be hacked by any malicious computer offensive. But, as always, if someone gains access to your private key, they gain access to your account. It is also highly recommended to store a paper wallet in multiple locations, in case of fire, theft, etc.

Due to the inherent inconvenience for the average user in storing Moon on a paper wallet, the most popular method of storage is a desktop wallet, followed by a mobile wallet.

Mooncoin desktop wallets are available in both Windows and Mac formats.
